Beacon Mental Health

Laurel Thornton, LICSW

Beacon Mental Health was started in a one-room office above a bakery in Brookline. Twenty-five years later it serves three Boston neighborhoods, runs a training program for early-career clinicians, and quietly anchors a referral network the city has come to rely on.

Laurel spent two years saying no to acquirers before she said yes. The diligence that finally won her was the one that started with the clinical model and ended with the cap table — not the other way around.

A year after the close, the name on the door is the same. The supervision rhythm is the same. The leadership team that built the practice still runs it.

Kindwell was the first conversation that did not ask me to give up what I had spent twenty-five years building.
